Instead, I am in the Netherlands visiting a former exchange student and her husband and 2 toddler daughters. I am not saying that I want to live with 2 toddlers permanently, because they certainly are challenging, but it is also nice to not be lonely. I am not sure if I will remember German when I get back though. It is kinda cool that Dutch is related to German. So though I can't speak any Dutch beyond super simple communication with the 2 year old (good job! sleep. all gone. bye. etc) I can actually understand a basic idea of what is going on. There are a lot of bonus points that the Netherlands has...
- No work!
- It is not a former Eastern European state
- I actually know people here and they like me and communicate with me and feed me
- Dutch TV is not dubbed. If it is originally in English it just has Dutch subtitles. Unlike in Germany where EVERYTHING is dubbed, not just kids' shows.
